Overwhelmed But Not Overtaken

crashing, waves, overwhelming, overtaken

Overwhelmed doesn’t even begin to describe life right now.

In fact, it may just be the understatement of the year.

What would you do when life is giving you rotten tomatoes instead of lemons for some good ol’ sweet lemonade?!

What would you do when the strongest person you know looks at you with tears in their eyes and is asking, “What is God supposed to do with me NOW?”

How does a person make sense of all of the pain, hurt, and tragedies that happened so many years ago, along with the ones that just keep coming and don’t seem to stop?

Wave after wave after wave!

Over and over and over.

You go the Lord’s house for encouragement, but sometimes come out feeling worse than when you came in. How is that even possible?

What do you do when no one wants to hear you, but instead they want to make sure that their wants and needs are known and met?

How do you share hope, faith, love, and encouragement when you can’t even remember the last time that someone came along and actually took the time to listen and speak life into you?

It just keeps coming. Overwhelmed but not overtaken.

Eventually you pause and think,”Wait a minute. Last night we talked about ministry and our hearts.  Now, less than 12 hours later another accident with his health happens? This isn’t our circumstances this is SABOTAGE!”

Then a righteous anger sweeps over you like a rushing wave.

The verse in Isaiah 43 comes to mind about how you will pass THROUGH the waters and the rivers, but they will not overtake you. Furthermore, let’s not forget about the one a few chapters later in Isaiah 54NO WEAPON FORMED AGAINST US WILL PROSPER!

Instantly, you stand up straighter.

Shoulders are back instead of slouched forward.

Chin is raised instead of lowered.

Eyes become clear and fixed straight ahead.

“Run this race!” Overwhelmed but NOT overtaken!

You suddenly notice that you have slowly succumbed to your circumstances and ended up becoming comfortable and complacent.

Finally, you realize that you haven’t been waiting on God, but rather HE has been waiting on YOU!
